If you really want to impress your friends with a spectacular LCD TV, you’ll want big. Bigger. A 50” size LCD TV is definitely big. If you’re outfitting a Home theater and you have the space for it, a 50” LCD TV will certainly be an attention-getter. This is also a nice size to have for businesses, whether for presentations or video-conferencing. Everyone will get a good view of a screen this size.
There’s no shortage of these large TVs on the market, either. Companies from Sony to Samsung to Panasonic make models in this extremely large size.
Sony’s 50” LCD rear projection TV has all of the features consumers expect from this popular brand, including the razor-sharp picture on an ultra-expansive screen.
Some of the 50” models are simply too heavy for wall-mounting, but setting them on display stands won’t take away from their commanding beauty. Stands are made in so many flattering varieties, you’re sure to find one to complement your LCD TV to the fullest extent. While most people expect the familiar slim design in LCD TVs, some of the larger models, especially the projection or rear-projection TVs, are bulkier and heavier than their lightweight LCD TV counterparts. The projection TVs tend to be less expensive, also, so if you don’t necessarily need or want a slim TV to mount on the wall, this may be a suitable option for you.
Where can you buy a 50” LCD TV and how much can you expect to shell out for one? A Sony model this size can be found any number of places, from Best Buy to Dynaco.com to Ebay. With a nearly endless list of features, plus its solid reputation, Sony delivers a quality product that will average around $2000 for a rear-projection model. In these large sizes, Sony tends to stick with the projection models. Panasonic also makes a well-received 50” LCD TV which retails for slightly less to the same price as the Sony.
This is a great size for viewing movies, sporting events (the Superbowl and Olympics would be particularly exciting at this size), or getting a mammoth view of your PC options since most LCD TVs come PC compatible (imagine how games would look at this size). If space is not at a premium and you want to get one of the largest size LCD TVs for the most of your money, the 50” is a good bet.
